MOTOR INDUSTRY MOVING TO A NEW LEVEL
Uzavtosanoat and General Motors will carry out joint activities within the framework of the new "GM-Uzbekistan Alliance", which is being created to further develop the domestic automotive industry.
According to the press service of the Uzbek company, "GM Uzbekistan Alliance" should contribute to ensuring greater autonomy of the Uzbek automotive industry.
Within the alliance, the two companies will continue cooperation in the production of cars and engines in our country, as well as the promotion and sale of cars under the Chevrolet and Ravon brands in the domestic and export markets.
Since 2007, the joint activities of Uzavtosanoat and GM allowed to double the production of cars in the country, a lot of work was done to expand the local network of suppliers, significant resources were invested in the development of local personnel, and high-quality cars were delivered to customers in Uzbekistan and export markets.
Uzavtosanoat and GM are unanimous in that the transition to a new format of relationships reflects the development of the industry and a significant increase in its potential over the past 10 years. Restructuring of relations from cooperation in the format of a joint venture to the transition to an alliance platform will ensure greater independence of the national automobile industry of the republic.
The parties will work on the implementation of approved projects for the development of new types of products. The alliance will also study the expansion of car exports to CIS countries and new markets. In addition, it will provide access to GM's automotive technologies and know-how.
The Uzbek side will take full control over operating activities for the production of cars and engines, including the promotion of the Ravon brand for GM products sold in export markets. The company will continue to manufacture and sell Chevrolet cars inside our country, which will be the foundation for joint activities, while export deliveries under the Ravon brand will expand.
- Given the strengthening of the industry, now is the right time to move to the alliance. GM will remain in Uzbekistan and will continue to support the further development of the domestic automotive industry, said GM Operations Director Hector Villarreal.
Both companies confirmed that the transition to the alliance will not affect the level of employment or production volumes of cars and engines. GM will continue to supply components for the production of cars and engines in Uzbekistan and will further support the automotive industry of the republic after moving to the alliance through the newly established GM Advisory Services, whose activities will be aimed at providing advisory and technical support.
