Shanghai celebrates 15th anniversary of SCO
On May 4-5, the ambassadors of the founding members of the SCO to China, including, Sh.Nurishev - from the Republic of Kazakhstan, K. Baktigulova - the Kyrgyz Republic, A.Denisov - Russian Federation, P.Davlatzoda - the Republic of Tajikistan, D.Kurbanov - the Republic of Uzbekistan, Jiang Yan - the Chinese Foreign Minister, Deputy Director of the Department for Central Asia and Europe, as well as R.Alimov - SCO Secretary General visited Shanghai on May 4-5, the city which 15 years ago saw the establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The heads of diplomatic missions met with mayor of Shanghai Yang Xun. During the meeting, it was noted that a modern and rapidly developing Shanghai, gave to the organization not only his name, but also its best qualities. Keeping pace with the times, the Association remembers its history and honors its deep roots.
It was stressed that in the framework of Uzbekistan\'s presidency in the SCO, special events dedicated to the remarkable date are underway throughout the city.
The ambassadors visited the places related to the conduct of the first Summit of heads of states-SCO members on 15 June 2001. In particular, they inspected the meeting rooms, which once saw the signing of fundamental documents of the organization, visited the historic bamboo gazebo, where an informal meeting with the leaders of the founding states of the SCO was held.
The Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) hosted a meeting with the scientific and expert community of the city of Shanghai, where SCO Secretary General R. Alimov made a report on the theme \"15 years of the SCO: achievements and prospects\".
During the meeting with involved nearly 200 prominent Chinese scientists and specialists in the field of contemporary international relations, the ambassadors answered questions of representatives of scientific and expert community related to various aspects of the SCO activity.
