Information on the terrorist acts in Uzbekistan
On July 30, 2004 between 16.45 and 17. 00 local time three explosions were carried out by suicide bombers in close proximity to the buildings of the Embassies of the US and Israel in Tashkent and also General Prosecutor?s Office.
The explosions killed a policeman of the Uzbek Interior Affairs Ministry and an officer of the Uzbekistan?s Security Service, who were guarding the buildings of the embassies. Nine people have been severely injured and two of them are currently under critical conditions.
The buildings of the embassies almost did not suffer from the explosions. But the explosion damaged the lobby of the General Prosecutor?s Office.
The terrorist-suiciders are being identified.
The government of Uzbekistan created special commission to investigate terrorist acts and establish identities of terrorists and their possible links. The commission, which includes heads of the respective bodies, will be led by the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.
Security measures have been reinforced around the buildings of the embassies and other main sites.
