PRESS-RELEASE OF THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN
Having attentively acquainted with statement of the European Parliament concerning tragic events in Andijan that took place on May 13, 2005, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan states the following:
Firstly, the attention has been attracted that all acquisitions and claims towards the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan are mainly based on information derived from relevant agencies, Mass Media and organizations for human rights protection, which practically are not supported by any sound or verified facts.
Desicision to raise of the question on establishment of International Investigation Commission of events in Andijan is groundless, meaning that Uzbekistan as all other sovereign states has all legal bases and possibilities to conduct the investigation of tragic events happened in Andijan independently and to provide detailed information upon its results to UN, as well as relevant European agencies.
Today, the inquiry is taking by qualified investigation group comprising out of qualified professionals.
At the same time, National Parliament has set an independent Parliamentary Commission. Its main goal is to provide a legal assessment of actions of the Government and law-enforcement agencies of the republic.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan emphasizes that UN and OSCE missions and all overseas embassies accredited in Tashkent have all possibilities to be acquainted with the situation in Andijan-city and have a direct meeting with local population.
The task force on monitoring of the investigation course was established from the members of the embassies of key countries, including UN Security Council members-states, as well as countries of direct neighborhood accredited in Tashkent.
Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan has all grounds to state that tens of foreign nationals directly participated in disorders happened in Andijan, and it even could be purposeful a terrorist action aimed on destabilization of the situation in Feghana Valley.
After the completion of the investigation there will be an open trial, which will give unprejudiced objective assessment of the tragic events in Andijan.
