UZBEK PHARMACEUTICS ARE PLANNING TO INCREASE EXPORT DELIVERIES BY 20%
The national pharmaceutical industry keeps expanding its export horizons. Even today, a week before the New Year, the companies under the O’zpharmsanoat Company predict the increase in export deliveries by 18.3%.
Over the years of independence, Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical industry has developed into 119 enterprises. Their products make up more than 40% of the domestic market.
The volumes of pharmaceutical production have increased more than 100 times - from 46.9 million soums to 574.2 billion soums last year as a result of the measures on the support of domestic producers and channeling foreign investments. It is estimated that by the end of 2015 Uzbekistan will produce pharmaceutical products worth 670 billion soums with 22% growth rate. Today, there are registered 1,447 drugs in 90 pharmacotherapeutic groups and 30 dosage forms, which cover 43% of domestic demand. (currency rates of CB RU from 30.12.2015 1$= 2809.98 soums)
The pharmaceutical industry of Uzbekistan is considered a very promising area of investment. The country has sufficient labor and energy capacity, and a great opportunity to enter the space of the CIS countries. The growing domestic market is another important factor, where the share of domestic products is expected to exceed 60% in the near future.
The amount of domestic and foreign investment has been actively growing accodringly. In 24 years of independent development, more than $283 million has been channeled in the industry, including $97.7 million of direct foreign investments. It is estimated that in 2015 the industry disburses $112 million.
The abovementioned factors have been contributing to the expansion of export horizons. According to a representative of O’zpharmsanoat, despite the reduction of supplies to Russia and Kazakhstan due to the global crisis, they managed to arrange exports to other countries in a short time, which are estimated to reach $11 million. The situation with a decrease in purchases of Uzbek medical products in these two countries was predictable, so the domestic companies have begun to gradually refocus production on other markets since the end of last year.
This year, along with Russia and Kazakhstan, Uzbek enterprises have been supplying their products to Georgia, Turkey, South Korea, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan. The work on the reorientation of deliveries has yielded the positive outcomes: the total volume of contracts concluded for the supply of products in the coming year has exceeded the rates of 2015 by14.7%.
Uzbek exports are represented by infusion solutions, antibiotics, bandages, herbal drugs, and other medicines. More than 200 products by 15 Uzbek enterprises have been registered in 12 countries around the world.
The list is tending to expand as the outcome of the ongoing campaign on the introduction of the international GMP standard (Good Manufacturing Practice) at Uzbek enterprises. It allows problem-free export of goods to any country in the world. To date, it was introduced by eight Uzbek enterprises, and 42 companies have introduced the quality management system ISO 9001.
