Uzbekistan’s Central Election Commission Briefs Media
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a briefing January 22 for local and foreign media to detail them on the course of the electoral round for presidential elections and the complete formation of the country’s Senate.
Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov, the CEC Chairman, said preparations have been active for the forthcoming elections of the President of Uzbekistan.
It was noted during the briefing that four functioning political parties of the nation expressed their desire to take part in the presidential elections, and thus presented the required package of documents to the Central Election Commission.
In accordance with the electoral legislation and on the basis of official papers submitted, the CEC has allowed the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Milliy Tiklanish (National Revival) Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, and the Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan to participate in the presidential elections.
The political parties are currently collecting signatures.
The reporters at the briefing were detailed about the political parties taking part in the elections, the procedure and process of securing signatures, as well as other organizational issues related to the upcoming vote.
Journalists were also informed about the formation and approval by the CEC of the personnel of district election commissions for the presidential elections, building on the recommendations of the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan, regional and Tashkent city councils of people’s representatives.
It was stressed that the district election commissions have included respected members of society with experience in previous elections.
Information on the composition, location and contact telephone numbers of district election commissions is published in the local press.
Media were also briefed on the formation of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan – the final stage of the parliamentary elections.
