On December 23, 2007 Uzbekistan will be holding presidential elections. For over years of independence the legal foundations for free democratic elections have been established in the country. They fully meet the international standards and promote realization of free expression of will by citizens. The Constitution of Uzbekistan, the laws ?On guarantees of suffrage of citizens?, ?On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan? and other legislative acts guarantee the suffrage of citizens.

According to the submission of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan due to 15th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and guided by the principle of humanism, and based on Item 10 of the Article 80 and Item 23 of the Article 93 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Decrees:

On December 8, 2007 Uzbekistan will celebrate 15th Anniversary of its Constitution Day. The Constitution has laid legal basis for formation of modern political and economic system, legal democratic and social state in Uzbekistan. It guarantees wide spectrum of human rights and freedoms.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan - At a formal ceremony on August 29, 2007, at the Uzbekistan State Institute of Arts, American choreographer Laurel Victoria Gray was awarded the title of \"Honorary Professor\".

On 20th August, 2007, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I.A.Karimov spoke in the joint session of Oliy Majlis, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Apparatus of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan devoted 16-th anniversary of Uzbekistan\\\'s Independence.

Assalamu-Alaykum, dear compatriots! Distinguished guests! First of all, I am happy from the bottom of my heart to express my deep respect and congratulate you and in your person all people of Uzbekistan on the occasion of the truly greatest and dearest holiday for all of us ? the 16th anniversary of Independence of our Homeland.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen! It is a great honor to invite you and your company to participate in the III International Uzbek Cotton Fair and IV International Cotton and Textile Conference organized by the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the International Cotton Advisory Committee and Cotton Outlook.

Dear heads of states! Distinguished participants of the meeting! It renders me a profound satisfaction to greet the heads of the SCO member-states and express gratitude to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Kurmanbek Bakiev for the cordial hospitality and good organization of the meeting of Council of heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization states.

The secured goals and the traversed path of making and reforming for over the years of independence give a confidence to speak about that the people of Uzbekistan have been achieving more significant successes by steadily continuing on the way to consolidate the sovereignty. The selfless work of the Uzbek people for the sake of further progress of the country and prosperity of their families and relatives, as well as the feeling of sharing the destiny of an entire nation are the defining qualities of changing worldview of the new generation of Uzbek people.

This year the people of Uzbekistan are going to celebrate the 16th anniversary of Independence, the country?s most important holiday, with a special pride and inspiration. Undoubtedly, the traversed path - the path of independent development has been marked by epochal transformations, establishment of the statehood, the rebirth of the national self-consciousness.

The declaration of the state independence of Uzbekistan by the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on August 31,1991 has become a significant landmark in the new history of Uzbekistan. The period of 16 years is small for the history. But for over this short period of time, the appearance of the whole country has changed completely. The Uzbek people are full of noble plans and high ideas, and they are aiming to the new achievements.

The session of the Board of the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information took place in Tashkent. The session has addressed the outcomes of the work of companies in the sphere of communication and information for over the first half-year 2007. It has seen the discussion of the course of implementation of decrees and resolutions of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and resolutions of the country?s government, as well as other issues within the scope of the Agency?s competence.

With an aim to ensure the protection of rights and interests of children left without a parental care, create for them the necessary conditions close to a family atmosphere, develop the family-type children?s houses as well as implement the Resolution of the President of Uzbekistan of January 23, 2007 ?PP-573 ?On the State program ?Year of Social Protection? the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan approved the Statute on the family-type children?s houses.

On July 30 this year the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan held its regular session. On the initiative of deputies of the faction of Liberal-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDEP) and in line with the Constitutional Law adopted by parliament upon the initiative of President Islam Karimov ?On strengthening the role of political parties in the renewal and further democratization of state governance and modernization of the country? the lawmakers have elected the Deputy Speakers out of the political party factions represented in Legislative Chamber.

While speaking to the correspondent of the National News Agency of Uzbekistan the Chairman of Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan Buritosh Mustafaev has told about the essence and significance of consistent and enormous reforms of judicial system, which have been underway in Uzbekistan during the years of independence and aimed at ensuring the human rights and freedoms.
