In accordance with the outcome of the Heads of State Council meeting held on 15 and 16 June 2009 in Yekaterinburg the heads of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation state the following:

The official visit of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to the Federative Republic of Brazil on the invitation of President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received a broad coverage in the Brazilian mass media.

On May 22, 2009 the city of Tashkent will host the International conference on the materials, provisions and conclusions offered in the book by President Islam Karimov “The global financial-economic crisis, ways and measures to overcome it in the conditions of Uzbekistan”.

Given the support of the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (AUCC) along with the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the United States the book by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov “The global financial and economic crisis, ways and measures to overcome it in the conditions of Uzbekistan” has been republished in English

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution on 15 May 2009 on measures to further support and develop entrepreneurship. The document envisages introduction of a number of additional preferences for small business and private entrepreneurs.

On April 28 this year the city of Almaty, the Republic of Kazakhstan, hosted the meeting of heads of founding states of the International Fund for Saving Aral. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov participated at the summit and took a floor at it. Below is the text of the address by the head of our state.

Local market demand: Due to high demand on glass and glass ware in Uzbekistan, the project assumes to sell 60% of total production to local market. 3. Glass export: 40% of goods are expected to export to neighboring countries (Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and others). 4. Glass manufacturers in Uzbekistan and Central Asian Region: Uzbek glass plants have produced 5,7 mln.sq.m. of glass in 2008, including 5 mln.sq.m by Stock Company “Kvarz”, and 0,7 mln.sq.m. - Joint Venture “Gazalkentoyna”. A total flat glass market capacity in Uzbekistan in 2008 was approximately 10 mln.sq.m., including imported 2.3 mln.sq.m. Construction sector is the main consumer of flat glass in Uzbekistan. It has more than 80% of output in its share.

Manufacturers of ceramic tiles in Uzbekistan and region: ceramic tiles market of the Republic of Uzbekistan is valuable and perspective as production is highly demanded due to its price, design, consumer properties. The Republic’s annual requirement of ceramic tiles is not less than 5 mln. sq.m. that is growing regularly.

GM Uzbekistan, a joint venture of US automaker General Motors (GM) and Uzbek automaker Uzavtoprom, plans to build a US $37.3 million press shop in 2009-2010.

Taking a floor at the Fifth World Water Forum on March 16 this year the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Igor Chudinov stated that the “construction of the Kambarata Hydropower Stations, which are located atop the Toktogul water reservoir has been started yet in the period of former Soviet Union and had gone through examination in the interests of all then the Central Asian republics”. The assertion is serious which requires clarification and clear understanding of the essence of the issue under discussion.

The Initiative on establishing a Nuclear Free Zone in Central Asia by the efforts of all interested sides and international organizations and for the sake of high interests of each country of the region, which for the first time was enunciated by President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the 48th session of the UN General Assembly on September 28, 1993, has been implemented.
