Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a law to introduce amendments to article 17 of Family Code of Uzbekistan. The law was passed by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on 11 March 2009 and Senate approved it on 29 August 2009.

The number of flights at the “Navoi” international airport has increased for the last six month and reached to 433 against 133 of similar period in previous year. Freight volume, run via cargo terminal was enhanced accordingly from 15 to 3.337 ton. Airport profits has increased ten-fold and up to 5 million 810 thousand USD.

Speaking at a function to mark the 2,200th anniversary of the Uzbek capital of Tashkent on 1 September, President Islam Karimov said that the Uzbek government’s anti-crisis measures produced “convincing” results. During his recorded speech broadcast on Uzbek TV on 1 September he described the Uzbek people as a free and independent nation with the feeling of responsibility about events taking place in the region and the entire world.
