Legislative Chamber approves 2010 employment program
The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved the Program of creation of workplaces and employment of the population for 2010 at its session on 29 October.

The program was presented by minister of economy S.Bekenov and acting minister of labor and social protection of the population A.Hayitov. The chairman of the parliamentary Committee for labor and social issues I.Nasriyev presented a co-report on the program.

The speakers noted that the aim of the employment program, developed by the Cabinet of Ministers, was to ensure the growth of employment, incomes and living levels of the population.

The program is based on the results of the analysis of the current state of the labor market and the forecast until the end of 2009. It also takes into consideration the measures for development of the economic sectors and the country’s territories for 2010 in accordance with the investment, industrial localization, technical modernization and the anti-crisis programs.

The document envisages creation of a total of 950,000 new workplaces in the coming year.

The deputies stressed that the employment program had a huge social importance in the conditions of the world financial and economic crisis, as well as deepening market reforms in the country.

They added that the practical implementation of the program required unification of efforts of not only authorities, but also of the public organizations and the business structures.

Implementation of complex and targeted measures in this area will help solve not only the employment problem, but also other important socioeconomic issues in the country, the deputies noted.
