According to the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Portuguese Republic, the delegation of the European Union ?troika? headed by Portuguese Presidency?s Coordinator for Central Asia Ambassador Mr. M.Kurto visited Uzbekistan on September 13-14, 2007.
The EU Delegation also consisted of EU Special Representative for Central Asia Mr. P.Morel, Director of the Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia Ms. D.Bavdaz Kuret as well as the Head of Directorate for External Relations of the European Commission Mr. G.Wiegand.
The EU ?troika? was received by Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Sh.Mirziyaev, Secretary of the National Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. M.Atayev as well as Ministers of Foreign Affairs Mr. V.Norov, Internal Affairs Mr. B.Matlyubov and First Deputy Minister of Justice Mr. A. Akhmedov.
During the meetings state of affairs and prospects of the relations between Uzbekistan and the European Union, issues of practical implementation of the document ?EU and Central Asia: Strategy for new partnership?, and international subjects of mutual interest were discussed.
Meetings were held in business-like atmosphere in the spirit of mutual understanding. The sides expressed satisfaction by the constructive dialogue that took place.
