Uzbek Liberal Democratic Party members win parliamentary by-elections
Three members of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan scored a victory in the parliamentary by-elections held in three constituencies on 24 December, the Uzbek National News Agency has reported, quoting the election results announced at a meeting of the country\'s Central Electoral Commission on 2 January.
The report said that the election body meeting chaired by the body\'s head, Mirzoulugbek Abdusalomov, had discussed the results of the parliamentary by-elections held in three constituencies in southwestern Bukhara, eastern Ferghana and central Tashkent regions.
The meeting noted a high voter turnout in the polls, with some 84% of the 332,036 registered voters coming to the polling stations to cast their ballots.
Three members of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, a party of businessmen, Gulom Safarov, Orif Sharipov and Abbos Ahmedov have been registered as new members of the parliament\'s lower house, the agency report said.
