Biography of Islam Karimov, the candidate for the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
Islam Karimov was born on January 30, 1938 in Samarkand in the family of servant. Nationality - Uzbek. Education - higher. He graduated from the Central Asian Polytechnic institute and the Tashkent Institute of National Economy, and received a specialization in mechanical engineering and economics. Candidate of Economic Sciences.

He began his career in 1960 at the \"Tashselmash\" factory. In 1961-1966 he worked as an engineer, a leading engineer-constructor at the Tashkent Aircraft Production Association named after V.P. Chkalov.

In 1966, he joined the State Planning Committee of the Uzbek SSR, where he passed a path from a chief specialist to the First Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Commission of the Republic.

In 1983, Islam Karimov was appointed as Minister of Finance of the Uzbek SSR, in 1986 as Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Uzbek SSR, chairman of the State Planning Commission of the Republic.

In 1986-1989 he worked as first secretary of the Kashkadarya regional party committee. First secretary of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan from June 1989.

March 24, 1990 at the session of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR Islam Karimov was elected as the President of the Uzbek SSR.

August 31, 1991 Islam Karimov declared the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

December 29, 1991 at the general elections, which were held on an alternative basis, Karimov was elected as the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

March 26, 1995 in accordance with a national referendum, the presidential term of Islam Karimov extended to 2000.

In 2000 held competitive elections, which resulted in accordance with the amendments to the Constitution, Islam Karimov was elected as the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for a period of 7 years.

In 2007, the general elections which held on an alternative basis, Karimov was elected as the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

He is married and has two daughters and five grandchildren. Wife T.A. Karimova - an economist, Ph.D., has worked as a senior research fellow at the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, now - retired.

For his outstanding contribution to the education of a sovereign and independent Uzbekistan, creating a humane and democratic law of government, to ensure civil peace and national reconciliation and shown resilience and courage Islam Karimov awarded the title of \"Uzbekistan Kahramoni\", he was awarded the Order of \"Independence\" and Amir Temur. He was also awarded the honorary titles, awards and medals from foreign states and international organizations.

Islam Karimov is a full member of the Sciences Academy of Uzbekistan. He was elected as an honorary doctor of several universities and academician of the Academy of Sciences of many foreign countries for his great contribution to the development of economy, science, education,.
