Women?s Telecommunications and Information Technologies Learning Centre opened on 12 November at the Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT).

The centre was set up by the US Telecom/Telematique company on the USAID grant issued to Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information, and aims to increase qualification of women working in the IT sector.

Sun Microsystems provided equipment, study aids and technical assistance as well as network system integrator CA CHS to the centre, while UNESCAP issued a grant for additional equipment.

The centre is also open for TUIT female students, which will create additional opportunities for them while getting employed, TUIT rector Sadyq Qasymov said.

Besides, students from other universities will be able to pursue the course of the centre through its distant learning program, he said.
