President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met EU special representative for Central Asia Jan Kubis on 9 September in Tashkent.

During the meeting, the sides considered issues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union.

Uzbekistan-EU relations are based on the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement signed in Florence, Italy in 1996.

Uzbekistan is an important partner of the EU in Central Asia.

Trade between Uzbekistan and the EU states grew by 10.6% in 2004 and made up USD 1.429bn.
