President of Uzbekistan and Russia meet
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov arrived in Moscow on 28 June with a working visit on the invitation of the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The two leaders met on the same day. During the talks, they noted that relations between Uzbekistan and Russia were based on principles of strategic partnership, and cooperation in political, economic and social spheres was developing intensively.
The presidents exchanged opinions on issues of the present state and the future of relations between the two countries. They stressed that commonness of views was important in expansion of cooperation.
The sides paid a special attention to issues of regional security. In particular, President of Uzbekistan informed his Russian counterpart of the tragic events that took place in Andijan on 13 May and the investigation that is under way.
Islam Karimov said that Russia?s leadership showed an unbiased attitude to the problem and gave an objective evaluation of the situation.
The presidents also exchanged views on international problems representing mutual interest.
