Events on drug abuse to be held in Uzbekistan
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, marked on 26 June, will be commemorated in Uzbekistan.
Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan will hold several events dedicated to this day in different regions of the country.
The society organized several workshops in Qoqand (Ferghana region) under motto ?From knowledge to health?. The workshops aimed at teaching young girls to prevent sexually transmitted disease, HIV infections, drug and alcohol abuse.
On 25 June, Namangan (Ferghana region) will host charity marathon ?Youth choose health life style without AIDS and DRUGS?. Some 200 volunteers will visit several districts and distribute booklets and other information materials on harm of drugs and AIDS/HIV problems.
On 26 June, event entitled ?Choosing Life? will be held in Tashkent with participation of representatives of Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan and German Cultural Centre. Demonstration ?Security rout? and talk show will be organized within the event. German Cultural Centre will demonstrate play ?Podval? (Basement), devoted to drug users? problems.
According to the United Nations, some 190 million peoples use drugs worldwide.
