President of Uzbekistan arrives in Latvia
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov arrived October 16 in Latvia with a state visit on the invitation of President of the Republic of Latvia Andris Berzins.
In honor of the President of Uzbekistan, the state flags of the two nations were raised and the guard of honor lined up at the Riga international airport.
The present visit is taking place as part of the regular Uzbek-Latvian political dialogue, which allows the heads of our two states to discuss in detail the current state of bilateral relations, define priority dimensions of cooperation for a longer-term period and exchange views on pressing regional and international issues.
In line with the state visit program, its principal events are scheduled for October 17.
President Islam Karimov is due to meet with the President of Latvia Andris Berzins, Speaker of the Saeima Solvita Aboltina, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis.
As it has been reported earlier, the visit is to produce a joint declaration of the heads of state and a considerable package of documents designed to bolster the multifaceted interaction between Uzbekistan and Latvia.
