Khorezm Turn into Tourist Klondike
This year, in the Khorezm region is planned to implement 119 projects worth 55.4 billion soums.

(Currency rates of CB from 15.08.2013 1$=2115.36soums). In the end of this year 4 new hotels will be built, 2 - overhauled, there will be six restaurants and catering items, 10 hygiene facilities. For these purposes 8.3 billion soums of investments will be disbursed.

“In recent years the number of visiting tourists in our region rapidly increasing,” manager of the Uzbektourizm’s National Department of Khorezm Odilbek Rakhimov says. “Ten years ago, up to 216.000 tourists came, while in 2012 the figure was 725.000. Of these, about 52 thousand - foreign guests. However, the period of their stay in the province extended, the average cost of each foreign tourist on the indicators of a decade ago have increased 2-2.5 times. The number of travel agencies has reached 5, hotels - 27. These hotels can take more than two thousand people a day.”

To improve efficiency and further development of the tourism industry in the province, a number of measures will be implemented in the next few years. For example, the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Land Resources, Geodesy, Cartography and State Cadastre and State Research and Production Enterprise “Kartographia” (Mapping) prepares a map of unique historical, cultural and architectural monuments of Khorezm in Uzbek, Russian and English. Tourists will be provided with necessary transport infrastructure. In the future, the Bukhoro-Urganch, Tashkent-Urganch routes, at the request of tour companies, will be put additional flights, as well as a special train with all the amenities and restaurants in national style. Also planned to establish a special tourist train movement on the route Termez-Urganch intended for tours of local and foreign tourists in the Khorezm oasis.

The air transport is not far behind the railway. From April 7 to October 20, 2013 every week air flight Bukhoro-Urganch-Bukhoro are carried out. On international routes flights Paris-Urganch and Urganch Milan are conducted, and in 2014 it is planned to open routes from Urganch to other major European cities.

Today, there are 255 objects of cultural heritage in the province, which passed state registration. Of these, 18 - archaeological, 133 - Architectural, 66 sculptured monuments and 32 sacred places of worship and others. In these days of work on improvement of tours and provide services at these facilities. Historical and scientific, historical, ethnic, cultural and entertainment tours, as well as ecological tourism routes are organized.

According to the Khorezm Department of NC Uzbektourizm, a large tourist complex is planed to build in the Hazarasp fortress in Hazarasp district. In order to protect cultural relics of the fortress, grounds are landscaped, bazaars, crafter home, tea house, hotel, museum, Khazarasp Castle, an amphitheater for 600 people are built. Canal and lake flowing near the fortress will be landscaped, boat trips and rafting are provided.
