Uzbek head, SCO Secretary-General discuss preparation to Astana summit
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Zhang Deguang on 26 May.
First Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov, Deputy Prime Minister Elyor Ghaniev and Uzbek envoy to China Nosir Yusupov participated at the meeting.
Zhang Deguang congratulated the Uzbek leader with successful visit to China. He praised role of Uzbekistan in foundation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and its contribution to development of cooperation within the organizations.
The SCO Secretary-General informed the President Karimov on preparation to the summit of heads of states of the SCO, which is planned to hold this July in Astana. He said that he will work with Uzbek and other sides to ensure success of Astana summit.
President Karimov positively assessed results, achieved in the current visit to China, and added that friendship, cooperation and partnership treaty will serve to improve Uzbek-Chinese relations.
Uzbekistan pays great attention to the SCO and support activity of Zhang Deguang and the SCO Secretariat, Karimov said. He hoped the SCO would develop and strengthen.
Uzbek head said that one month left to Astana Summit and all sides should speed up preparation to the summit.
The sides also exchanged opinion on situation in Central Asia and other issue.
