Islam Karimov meets with India\'s Vice President
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met at the Oqsaroy May 22 with Vice President of the Republic of India Hamid Ansari, who has been on official visit in our country.
The head of state noted the important role of the regular Uzbek-Indian political dialogue in the steadfast development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation across all spheres of shared interest.
During the conversation, a particular significance was attached to the evolution of inter-parliamentary exchanges, to the enhancement of interaction between Uzbekistan and India in trade-economic, investment and cultural-humanitarian areas.
It was stressed at the meeting that the government agencies and private sectors of our two nations are interested in the enlargement and diversification of reciprocal supplies of goods and services, in the establishment of mutually advantageous joint ventures in hi-tech sectors of economy, including information technologies and telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and biotechnologies, textile and chemical industries, as well as exploration and development of hydrocarbon deposits.
The bilateral trade turnover exceeded 201 million US dollars in 2012 – a considerable increase in comparison with corresponding indicators of the previous period.
The concurrence and similarity of approaches to addressing the key regional and international issues has been a reliable backbone for interaction of the two sides within international institutions.
During today’s exchange of views on the Afghan topic, it has been stated that the resolution to the crisis in that long-suffering land will meet the interests of the peoples in our region and open up new opportunities for the enhancement of cooperation among the countries of Central and South Asia.
The two sides also discussed other issues in the agenda of Uzbek-Indian strategic partnership.
Hamid Ansari expressed gratitude to the head of our country for a warm reception and confirmed the Indian leadership’s adherence to overall efforts designed to intensify the long-term and multifaceted cooperation with Uzbekistan in the spirit of fundamental agreements reached during President Islam Karimov’s state visit to India in May 2011.
