A map of cultural heritage sites has been created in the country
The map covers a very significant period of humanity from the Stone Age to the present day. Many of the monuments are of global importance.

This work has been done by scholars and specialists of the General Office for Preservation and Utilization of Objects of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan. It goes that today more than 10 thousand sites of cultural heritage have been registered across the country. The works are in progress on including of other more thousand objects in this list. This is significantly more in number than those in all other countries of Central Asia combined.

According to the academician Edvard Rtveladze, success in this area is contributed by such important factors as the development of programs for the protection and utilization of sites of cultural heritage, the planned designing, restoration, conservation, maintenance and adaptation of objects of cultural heritage for modern use. In all regions of the country and Karakalpakstan operate regional inspections for their protection, which perform constant technical monitoring of conservation and restoration works. They also supervise the technical condition of objects of cultural heritage and keep cadastral records. At the same time, the general office specialists closely cooperate with UNESCO and other foreign organizations dealing with protection, conservation and restoration of objects of cultural heritage.

“Over the past 20 years, our specialists managed to thoroughly examine and summarize the experience of the old masters, and most importantly, to identify what needs to be done for preservation of their architectural masterpieces. This experience is now in demand all over the world,” said the head of the General Office for Protection and Utilization of Objects of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Ravshanbek Mansurov.

“Thus, many of our contemporary masters performed very important works at various objects in Malaysia, India, Germany, and United States. They especially distinguished in decorating the buildings for the celebration of a thousand years history of Kazan. The latest example is the restoration work at the “Uzbekistan” sanatorium in Yalta, Ukraine, and the adjoining palace of Olimkhon.

Attaching great importance to the cultural heritage, Uzbekistan has adopted a long-term program for research, conservation and restoration of the unique monuments of the country for the purpose of passing them to future generations. Thus, the state program on restoration and reconstruction of monuments in Bukhoro will act till 2020, program on Samarqand to 2015, and the state program has been prepared on the objects located in Qashqadaryo region that will act by 2018.
