Asian Olympic Council and Uzbekistan’s NOC to intensify collaboration
President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah paid an official visit to Uzbekistan at the invitation of Mirabror Usmanov, recently elected president of the NOC of Uzbekistan.
Hundreds of boys, who just were playing the ball on artificial turf in front of the office of Uzbekistan Football Federation, quickly gathered at the edge of the field and shouted together ‘Welcome to Tashkent!’ addressing to the head of the OCA. According to Mirabror Usmanov, the invitation at the headquarters of the Football Federation was driven by the construction of the new building of the National Olympic Committee in the neighborhood. He also promised to invite Sheikh Ahmad Al-Sabah in Tashkent in October to its opening ceremony.
“You have done a lot for the development of football in your country, and this is evident from the results and the created infrastructure,” said the guest. “Managing the National Olympic Committee is a job of higher level and responsibility. But I am glad that we are working together in football and in the Olympic movement. We will work together on the issues of preparations for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and together celebrate the results. And, of course, before that we have the Asian Games to go.”
OCA president expressed his appreciation for the care of the leadership of Uzbekistan to the development of sports in the country and the measures implemented for the most successful preparation of leading athletes for the Olympics.
President of Uzbekistan NOC stressed on the careful attention paid by the government to children’s sports: “A few days ago we held a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Children\'s Sport Fund, chaired by the President of Uzbekistan. The fund presented report on the job done for ten years. It was invested a lot in the logistical development of children\'s sports, which allows us to be optimistic about the future, and express our readiness for competitions of the highest level in a variety of sports.”
Summing up the meeting, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah noted a number of fundamental agreements. First, it is intentions on substantial expansion of the presence of representatives of the Uzbek sports in the OCA and continental federations, which is very important for the development of Olympic sports in Uzbekistan. Second, it is special OCA scholarships for leading athletes in Uzbekistan, on the results of Asian Games and Olympic qualification to Rio de Janeiro.
Third is holding major continental competitions in Uzbekistan and increasing the number of international sporting events conferences, seminars, workshops, etc.
OCA president visited Pakhtakor Stadium, which was completely reconstructed four years ago. Then he visited the ultra-modern arena of Bunyodkor Stadium. “I’m pleased with what I saw and with the talks,” said Sheikh Ahmad al-Sabah. “And I am sure that our future cooperation will develop very rapidly.” (Source: Uzbekistan Today Newspaper).
