Ferghana Regional Kengash (Council) of People’s Representatives convened December 14 for a special session.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov traveled to Ferghana to attend the meeting and delivered a speech there.

According to the head of our state, remarkable achievements have been conspicuous in Ferghana region in manufacturing and construction industries, agriculture, small business and private entrepreneurship, modern housing in rural areas, employment of population and other social sectors.

The gross regional product is anticipated to reach 106.7 percent at the end of 2012, including agricultural production at 107.5 percent, services at 117.2 percent, while a 12 percent growth is expected in contract works, the President said.

Ferghana’s gross regional product has enhanced 1.7 times compared to figures in the year 2000.

In his speech, Islam Karimov drew attention also to potential tasks and problems waiting to be addressed, along with the recognition of impressive efforts and their effects in this province.

The session participants then deliberated on managerial issues. On the recommendation of President Islam Karimov, Shuhrat Ganiev has been elected hokim (governor) of Ferghana region, who had hitherto been working as acting hokim.

A number of participants took floor to speak at the session. In particular, chairwoman of Ferghana regional branch of Uzbekistan’s Union of Authors Enakhon Siddikova, Mahalla Public Charity Fund’s Ferghana regional branch chairman Akramjon Yulbarsov, Ferghana State University student Guzalkhon Ergasheva noted that the leader of Uzbekistan provided with a comprehensive and thoroughgoing analysis of the critical priorities in Ferghana region’s socio-economy development. According to them, the head of state also outlined urgent challenges. The speakers pointed out that the people of the region, having made right conclusions from the views and thoughts put forward, will work honestly in the name of the reforms and further elevation of their effectiveness, and steadfast implementation of programs adopted across spheres and sectors.

Later that day, President Islam Karimov reviewed the progress in creative endeavors underway in accordance with the reconstruction program of downtown Ferghana.

In construction works and urban planning, it is imperative to take climatic conditions in Ferghana into consideration, Islam Karimov suggested. He stressed at the same time that in the process of current construction and creative works in the city, a special emphasis should be placed on the extensive use of landscaping architecture and the systemic arrangement of works.

Also, the President of Uzbekistan got familiarized with the course of construction at the soccer stadium and the palace of arts, and gave due instructions on the improvement of ongoing works. (Press service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan)
