Traces of History
An Uzbek-French archaeological mission in southern Uzbekistan found part of Greco-Buddhist friezes.
The cooperation between Uzbekistan and France in the cultural sphere is currently actively developing. Particularly, an active area of this interaction is archeology. The joint work of the Uzbek and French archaeologists promotes the rich cultural heritage of Uzbekistan.
According to the press service of the French Embassy in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek-French archaeological mission in North Bactria found the perfectly preserved high relief of white limestone.
This 40 cm high remarkable sculpture is a part of the Greco-Buddhist friezes adorning the temple on the hill Genghis II in Old Termiz. A man and a woman presented on it dressed in elaborate style of the Indo-Greek Bactrian culture.
At present, this finding is in the Archaeological Museum of the city of Termiz and later will become a subject to scientific research. (Source: Uzbekistan Today newspaper)
