ADB Vice President meets Uzbek officials in Tashkent
A delegation of the Asian Development Bank led by its Vice President Liqun Jin met the Uzbek officials in Tashkent.
Fayzullo Mulladjanov, chairman of the Uzbek Central Bank, received the visiting delegation to discuss relations between Uzbekistan and the ADB. The sides noted that the relations between the sides are developing dynamically.
The ADB official said that the ADB is ready to assist Uzbekistan to speed up reforms in banking sector, underlining importance of presidential resolution ?On further measures in reforming and liberalization of banking system? dated 15 April 2005.
He said that the bank, in particular, can help in currency market liberalization, render technical assistance to develop private businesses, privatization of banks and attraction of foreign investments to this sector.
The delegation of the ADB also met the Uzbek Finance Minister Saidahmad Rakhimov and members of Commerce and Industry Chamber of Uzbekistan to consider further interaction issues and new direction of cooperation.
The Asian Development Bank invested over US$810 million to 17 projects in Uzbekistan. The projects directed to further improvement of water supply and irrigation system, construction of railway and others.
