Upholding Socially Important Projects
Parliamentary Committee for Management of the Assets of the Public Fund for Support of NGOs and Other Civil Society Institutions under Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a regular meeting.
The meeting highlighted the results of the sixth grant competition of the public fund on enhancing the capacity of nongovernmental non-profit organizations and the population in protecting the environment and health, and addressing important issues of rational use of natural resources.
“More than 130 nongovernmental organizations and other civil society institutions submitted 228 applications for the tender, which is 32% more than last year,” said at the meeting Akmal Saidov, Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for the Management of Assets of the Public Fund for the Support of NGOs and Other Civil Society Institutions.
The Parliamentary Commission scrutinized the social significance of the submitted projects, ways and mechanisms of their implementation, and selected the most promising ones out of the total number of projects. Special attention was paid to the projects on the involvement of civil society organizations in protecting human health and environment, the development of eco-tourism, promotion of healthy lifestyle, and raise of ecological culture of young people. The contest provides funding for over 40 projects worth 580 million soums. (Source: Uzbekistan Today newspaper)
