President Islam Karimov congratulates Barack Obama President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov has sent a congratulatory note to Barack Obama on his re-election as the President of the United States of America (Press-service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan) Meeting of the Arab Coordination Group

During the visit of the delegation of the Arab Coordination Group to Uzbekistan a meeting with representatives of the relevant ministries and departments of our country was held in Tashkent on November 6. The meeting was attended by members of the Arab Coordination Group - representatives of the Islamic Development Bank, the Saudi Fund for Development, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, the OPEC Fund for International Development and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

Uzbekistan\'s cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank is expanding from year to year. Ten projects worth 186.4 million U.S. dollars have been implemented in cooperation with IDB. Another five projects worth 277.4 million dollars are at the stage of implementation.

ECONOMY

Uzbekistan attracts investments for US$2bn in Jan-Sep The volume of investments into fixed capital made up 15.3 billion soums (official exchange rate 1 USD=1956,21 UZS) in January-September 2012, which grew by 9.8% in comparable prices. The joint statement of the Ministry of Economy and State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan on social-economic development of Uzbekistan in nine months of 2012 said.

The volume of attracted foreign investments and loans made up US$2 billion, of which US$1.6 billion (+9.6 year-on-year) were used, including US$1.3 billion –foreign direct investments.



Uzbekistan’s vegetables production

In nine months 2012 Uzbekistan produced 5.4 million tonnes of vegetables and 1.4 million tonnes of fruits in nine months of 2012, as stated by the Ministry of Economy and the State Statistics Committee.

Uzbekistan significantly increased lands area for production of vegetables, gardens and vineyards. The statement said that Uzbekistan sowed vegetables to 244,100 hectares, potatoes – 84,600 hectares and melons and gourds – 58,100 hectares.



Enterprises of the Navoi FIEZ produce goods for 47.7bn soums

In nine months of 2012, eleven enterprises, operating at Navoi free industrial and economic zone, produced goods for 47.7 billion soums (official exchange rate 1 USD= 1960.00 UZS). The joint statement of the Ministry of Economy and State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan on social-economic development of Uzbekistan in nine months of 2012 said.

The material said that seven new investment projects are implemented in Navoi FIEZ. Three of them are at construction-assembly stage.



Eight projects implemented at the Angren special zone

Eight projects with total cost of US$ 185.8 million are implemented in the Angren special industrial zone in Tashkent region of Uzbekistan. The projects are implemented in such sectors as food, oil and gas, metallurgy and electronics.

Largest project of them is construction of new sugar plant. The cost of the project is US$108.5 million. The capacity of the plant is 1,000 tonnes of sugar a day.

Synecta to participate in CDM projects in Uzbekistan

Synecta Holding à.s (Slovak Republic) and the Uzbekenergo State company signed agreements on implementation of two projects within the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

Within the agreements, the sides will plan to decrease emission of greenhouse gas (CO2) at two heating power stations in Uzbekistan – Tashkent thermal power station and Talimardjan thermal power station. Synecta will monetize CO2 emission reduction and provide consulting services necessary for registration of the projects at the UN in line with the CDM requirements.



China’s Shaanxi province business visit Uzbekistan

A delegation consisting of representatives of over 30 Chinese companies from Shaanxi province of China paid a visit to Uzbekistan on 5-7 November 2012. The visit was aimed at developing trade-economic interaction between Uzbek and Chinese business circles, establishing mutual beneficial contacts with Uzbek businesses, and discussing opportunities on perspectives of bilateral ties.

Within the visit, the Uzbek-Chinese Business Forum and Cooperation Exchange were held in Tashknt on 7 November 2012. Business structures of Uzbekistan and China also signed agreements on supply of goods and equipment for US$ 41.35 million.



SPORTS

Uzbekistan’s Olympic athletes training program

The Ministry of Culture and Sport Affairs announced a program on training of Olympic athletes in Brazil n 2016.

So far Uzbek athletes participated over 200 international competitions in nine months of 2012, and they won 182 gold medals, 164 silver medals and 177 bronze medals. They won 523 medals overall.

Some 58 athletes participated at Olympic Games and Paralympics Games in London winning one gold, three bronze medals at Olympic Games and one silver medal at Paralympics Games. Uzbekistan was on 47th place in the world on number of claimed medals, seventh in the CIS and second in Central Asia. (Source: UzDaily.com)
