SEMINAR DISCUSSES UZBEKISTAN?S ACCESSION TO WTO
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the US Agency for International Development (PRAGMA Corporation) organized workshop dedicated to accession of Uzbekistan to the World Trade Organization on 11 April.
Businesses, government officials and others attended the event. The participants discussed advantages and disadvantages of joining of the country to the organization, principles of WTO accession, non-tariff methods of import regulation, etc.
Uzbekistan started accession to the World Trade Organization on 8 December 1994 and the working group was set on 21 December of the same year. In September 1998, Uzbekistan presented memorandum on trade regime and in July 2002 was held the first meeting of the working group.
The second session of the group was held in June 2004 and next step on WTO accession will become access to trade markets and services with interested member countries.
