Meeting with delegation of Oman
A delegation of Oman, headed by Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 23 October 2012.
The issues of implementing the agreements, reached during the official visit of President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Oman in October 2009, other aspects of bilateral relations were discussed.
On 19 October 2012 the Cabinet of Ministers held a meeting to discuss the results of socio-economic development for the 9 months of the current year.
During the first 9 months of this year, GDP growth constituted 8.2 percent. Industrial output of the country rose by 7.2%, agricultural production – by 7.1%, construction works – by 9.8%, retail trade turnover – by 12.6% and services – by 13.8%. State budget was executed with a surplus of 0.3% to GDP. Inflation did not exceed the forecast parameters.
Total exports increased by 12.4% compared to same period of last year.
Improvement of business environment allowed to create 18,400 new small and private businesses in nine months of 2012. Share of small and private businesses grew up to 51%.
9 months of this year 773,000 new jobs were created in the country, with more than 486,000, or 62.9 percent - in rural areas.
Over 220 km of roads were built and repaired in the country
Today, the total length of roads in Uzbekistan is about 184 thousand km, of which 42,654 km are roads of general use. Of these, 2,755 km of roads is part of the Uzbek National Highway.
The results of VIII International Uzbek cotton and textile fair
Uzbek cotton and textiles are one of the best in the world. This was once again confirmed by the VIII International Uzbek cotton and textile fair, organized on the initiative of the President Islam Karimov. Under its results in the capital, domestic and international companies signed a number of contracts and agreements.
In particular, representatives of many companies signed contracts for the supply of 670 thousand tons of Uzbek cotton and the export of textile products from our country on total amount of $600 million. In total, in the framework of the VIII International Uzbek cotton and textile fair 12 foreign and 6 of the domestic companies concluded more than 150 contracts.
During two days of the International Uzbek cotton and textile fair conducted, organizers provided a series of activities aimed at familiarizing the international representatives of the cotton industry, textile companies and trading agents with investment potential of the cotton industry of Uzbekistan, expansion of partner relations.
Experts and specialists in the sphere of cotton and textile industry presented reports on topics such as: \"Forecast of cotton world market \", \"Long-term forecast of demand and international trade of natural and synthetic fibers\", \"Uzbek cotton: production, consumption and competitive advantages\", \"Structural changes in the world cotton trade\", \"Development of the textile industry of Bangladesh and the role of Uzbek cotton\", \"Investment potential of the textile industry of Uzbekistan\" and others.
There was demonstration of fashion by Design center under the SJSC \"Uzbekyengilsanoat\", observation of stands with samples of Uzbek cotton and the exhibition of textile products, and also there were presentations of the investment potential and projects of the textile industry of the regions of the Republic.
In addition, the fair participants familiarized with the activity of the cotton-ginning plant \"Uzbekistan\", cotton terminal \"Toshkent - tola\" and textile enterprises of FE \"Riether Uzbekistan\", FE \"BF Textile\", FE \"Uztex Tashkent\".
There is no doubt that the International Uzbek cotton and textile fair plays an important role in the development of the world cotton industry. It not only provides ample opportunities for purchasing world-famous Uzbek cotton fiber, establishing and developing partner relations, but also contributes to the consistent and dynamic development of both cotton production and the textile industry. The VI International Industrial Fair and Cooperation Exchange opened at the pavilions of the UzExpoCentre.
The purpose of the International Industrial Fair and Cooperation Exchange is to help business entities to optimize production, to strengthen and develop of intra-and inter-sectoral cooperation, to promote greater awareness of the products produced in the country, to assist in finding partners and to conclude contracts between local producers, including for export.
At the current forum more than 1,100 domestic companies and nearly 1,000 representatives of foreign companies from countries such as Germany, Italy, Latvia, South Korea, China, Poland, Russia, Turkey and others are taking part. For visitors of the International Industrial Fair and Cooperation Exchange the entire infrastructure of the National Exhibition Company \"Uzexpocentre\", namely the four exhibition halls, two atriums, 4 open areas, conference and meeting rooms of the international trade center, hotel, catering points are in service.
About 60% of mass media outlets in Uzbekistan are non-governmental
Currently, 1,292 mass media outlets are operating in Uzbekistan, of which 60% are non-governmental, deputy director-general of the Uzbek Agency for Print and Information (UzAPI) Ruzimat Safaev said at the press conference in Tashkent.
Ruzimat Safaev underlined that as of 1 October 2012, number of Internet mass media reached over 190.
Representative of the UzAPI said that the country developed and implements a complex of measures on supporting perspective projects and programmes, directed at strengthening economic independence and financial sustainability of mass media and news agencies, updating and developing their material technical base for 2012-2016.
He said that currently a draft law “On economic foundation of the mass media activity”, amendment and changes to existing legislation on mass media.
