First Fruits of Wind Power Industry: Uzbekenergo builds a unique plant
Uzbekistan is completing the implementation of a unique pilot project in alternative energy.
Uzbekenergo plans to complete the construction of a pilot wind power plant at its equity in Yubileyniy village of Bostonliq district of Tashkent region this year. With its technical performance, the capacity of 750 kW, height of 65 meters, swing blades of 50 meters and 3.6 meters diameter of the tower’s foundation, it is going to be the first wind power plant not just in Uzbekistan, but in Central Asia.
Exploration works were carried out in the expected area of building the wind turbine plant during the year prior to the construction of the facility. The power and direction of the wind and temperature conditions were tested with the specially built meteorological tower.
The experience of installation of wind turbines by developed countries like Germany, China, Denmark, Norway and South Korea was studied.
A tender for the turnkey construction of wind power plant was held in 2011 to bring the cutting edge technologies and equipment to the project. It resulted in signing a contract with a Chinese company Xian Electric Engineering. Xinjiang Gold Wind Science Technology Co.LTD, which is world wide known in this field, was selected as a wind turbine manufacturer.
By the present time, Xian Electric Engineering completed the delivery of the first batch of processing equipment: a foundation ring, hub and blades of wind power plant. According to the Uzbekenergo experts, the equipment is unique with its blades 23.5 meters in length and weighing three tones each, and made of reinforced glass-epoxy resin.
The pilot wind power plant is the first sign of application of renewable sources in electricity production by Uzbekenergo. It is planned to increase the number of wind power plants in Uzbekistan in the future. (Source: Uzbekistan Today newspaper)
