Looking Forward to Theatre.UZ/2012
Preparations in full swing for one of the most prestigious and amplitudinous festivals
Little time is left for the opening of the 3rd International Theater Festival Theatre.UZ/2012, a grand cultural event that is going to bring together again the renowned drama art figures from all different kinds of countries within the 7th Art Week Style.uz. This year, the traditional project is to be organized in the format of creative laboratory, while the closing ceremony is to take place in tandem with the Festival of National Dress and the award ceremony of the Gulenko Prize for stage designers.
The feast of creativity, beauty and talent is organized by the Fund Forum, Youth Theater of Uzbekistan, Ministry of Culture and Sports, and Uzbekteatr Creative Production Association. This year along with the capital and regional theaters of Uzbekistan the creative competition will have theater troupes from Bulgaria, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. Plays will be performed in various languages – Uzbek, Bulgarian, Kyrgyz and Russian.
Repertoire of the festival promises to be rich, diverse and could arouse the interest of even the most demanding spectator.
Performances staged on the works of best world authors, including William Shakespeare, Alisher Navoi, Alexander Green, Anton Chekhov, Ghafur Ghulom, touching the everlasting life themes and full of great depth of meaning, would leave none indifferent. Thus, the festival program has such popular products as Romeo and Juliet, The Wall of Iskandar, Faust, Rothschild’s Violin, as well as joint projects of Uzbek and foreign theaters, staged in the form of readings with performing elements. Those include Threads of Silk (UK-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan) and Kho’ja Nasriddin’s Five Wives (Uzbekistan-Tajikistan, Uzbekistan-Israel, and Uzbekistan-Germany).
Besides, within the 3rd International Theater Festival Theatre.UZ/2012 will be conducted master-classes from representatives of UK and Uzbekistan theaters with Youth Theater as a host, creative meeting with the author of the play ‘Happy End’ Ido Netanyahu and participants of the project, master-class from the German artist Lutz Hoffmann at the Kamoliddin Behzod National Institute of Arts and Design, and lectures on history of the Israeli theater at the State Institute of Arts and Culture of Uzbekistan.
“Organization of the festival is aimed at enriching the theater life of the country, demonstrating the achievements and creative potential of national and foreign theaters, interaction of scene cultures of various countries in best traditions of drama art,” noted art-director of the festival Vassa Vasilieva. “The upcoming festival targets the study of process of creativity, creation of art-object and its development. In this case the spectator turns into the participant of a process and he or she would have the opportunity to plunge into the creation of a play and work of specialists.”
For this purpose, within the Theatre.UZ/2012 will be organized master-classes, staging of plays ‘work in development’ and exhibition of stage designers.
