New planet named after Maydanak
A small planet-asteroid, which was recently discovered by Japanese scientists, was named after Uzbek astronomical observatory \"Maidanak\", the Space Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan said.

Space Institute said that it received information that the small planet-asteroid No. 22948 has been named after Maydanak by the International Space Union.

The publication of Harvard Small Planets Center said that Maydanak is a world-class space observatory in Uzbekistan.

Maydanak has become the seventh small planet in solar system, which are related to Uzbekistan. Earlier, six planets were named after Uzbekistania, Avicenna, Ulugbek, Beruni, Khorezm and Samarkand. (Source: UzDaily.com)
