Domestic Medicaments
This year, the pharmaceutical industry runs 25 projects to develop production worth more than $200 million.

As part of the national investment program for 2012, the largest pharmaceutical producer Uzfarmsanoat is implementing 20 projects aimed at promoting domestic production of medicines and medical devices. These projects will bring the share of domestic products in the total pharmaceutical market of the country to over 40%.

The priority projects will be production of a wide range of generic drugs, that is, products with high demand which are mostly imported from abroad. These projects include a joint venture Salubris Vita to produce drugs that normalize the intestinal microflora, Albifarma to produce fortified products, Niva Farm producing cardiac drugs.

The national pharmaceutical industry has also designed and implemented a program of measures to actively attract foreign investment and develop projects of production of drugs to treat tuberculosis, cancer, cardiovascular, neuropsychiatric and other diseases.

Foreign investments will be attracted for creating joint ventures for the production of antiviral and immune-products of biotechnological materials (vaccines, serums, test systems, culture media), generic drugs, fluids and blood plasma substitutes. These projects will also develop domestic production of cephalosporin antibiotics and original drugs developed by domestic scientists. (Source: Uzbekistan Today newspaper)
