Cotton industry of the country: from modernization of facilities to reduction of production costs
The main achievement of Uzbekistan\'s cotton industry during the period of independent development is fundamental technical and technological renewal of production facilities.
In 2005-2007, according to the program of modernization of enterprises specialized in the preparation of cotton seeds more than thirty shops were put into operation, and by 2012 in Uzbekistan finished modernization and reconstruction of 41 cotton gin within comprehensive measures pursuant to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan of April 3, 2007 ¹ 70 \"On the program of modernization and reconstruction of the cotton industry in 2007-2011\". This information was announced during the first phase of the 6th International Industrial Fair and Cooperation Exchange.
Along with the steps for upgrading of enterprises, extensive work was carried out on the introduction of quality management system in accordance with international standard ISO 9001 at the Association \"Uzpakhtasanoat\", its regional offices and a number of ginneries.
Now, the priorities include the need to reduce production costs within the industry. Guided by the requirements of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 07.03.2012, ¹ 64 \"On additional measures to reduce production costs in the industry\", experts of the Association \"Uzpakhtasanoat\" developed a program of actions designed to reduce production costs for industry by 15.1%, or 57.2 billion soums (official exchange rate 1 USD= 1892,59 UZS). In the first quarter of 2012, the industry saved 26.25 billion soums, which is 17.4% of total production costs.
Significant savings reserves are hidden in the strengthening of intra-cooperative ties. Localization of production necessary for the needs of the cotton industry can provide substantial savings of foreign exchange and reduce the associated costs. So for the next five years, the industry will require an annual supply of at least 10 hydro pressers with high compaction effort and 20 high-pressure hydraulic pumps.
Mastering the production of this equipment by machine-building enterprises of Uzbekistan could yield savings of hard currency up to $3 million annually.
Work on the implementation of these plans continues. To meet the production needs of enterprises of the Association \"Uzpakhtasanoat\" it is planned to conclude contracts with subcontractors totaling about 4.6 billion soums within the Branch Industrial Fair and Cooperation Exchange 2012.
