US GOVERNMENT HANDS OVER EQUIPMENT TO UZBEK STATE BODIES
US Government handed over equipment worth US$749,500 to some state bodies of Uzbekistan within the framework of ?Export control and border security? (EXBS) program.
In particular, State Border Protection Committee under National Security Service, State Customs Committee, Health Ministry and Emergency Ministry of Uzbekistan received the equipment.
The cargo consists of 252 radiation pagers, 20 Ludlum Geiger counters, eight acoustic systems of customs control, 20 density meters, 18 stationary metal detectors, 60 Metor portable metal detectors and 34 night-vision binoculars.
Uzbekistan receives aid on prevention of mass destruction weapons distribution and export control within EXBS implemented by the US Customs and Border Agency. Since 2000, the government of Uzbekistan has received equipment and educational programs worth a total of US$12 million.
As reported earlier, State Border Protection Committee received two patrol barges ?Gyurza? made in Ukraine for the amount of US$5.8 million in January 2005.
It is expected that the next deliveries will include roentgen unit for processing of luggage in Tashkent airport, engines and tires for armored troop carriers BTR-80 and two helicopter simulators worth US$8.2 million.
