TASHKENT HOSTS INTL CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS ECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS
International conference on ?Human health in socio-ecological dimension? was held on 15 February in Tashkent. Ecosan international organization and Health Ministry of Uzbekistan organized the event.
Representatives of state institutions, national research institutes, higher educational establishments, diplomatic corps and international organizations discussed issues concerning the effect of socio-ecological factors on human health, as well as international cooperation in the sphere of health and environment protection.
Conference participants noted that poor ecological situation was a growing threat to human health. Water (30%) and air (40%) pollution were named as the most significant factors causing damage to health of the world population. Soil pollution was found to be another major threat.
Following a lively discussion, the participants proposed and approved the project on the national contest to be conducted under the motto ?Let?s turn our region, city, and district into the land of high sanitary culture?.
The aim of the contest to be conducted at all territorial levels is to attract attention of the community to ecological problems. Enterprises operating in the country will also be able to take part in the contest.
Results of the contest will be reviewed on the eve of the World Environment Day, marked on 5 June.
