Increasing Crop Yields
Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan held a press conference on the rational use of land and water resources.
Since 2008, Uzbekistan has cleared around 3 thousand kilometers of drainage network, built and reconstructed 40 drainage pumping stations, more than 1,600 wells. This work employed more than 1,200 units of modern technology.
Reclamation carried out during the last four years by improving the drainage system, the national agriculture have rehabilitated 70,000 hectares of strongly and moderately salty soil, said Ravshan Mamutov, deputy director of water resources department at the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture of Uzbekistan. A new pumping station in Furqat district of Farghona region have increased cotton yield by 300 kg per hectare, the yield of wheat by 600 kg.
Same results can be observed in Khorazm, Bukhoro, Surkhondaryo and Sirdaryo regions. (Source: “Uzbekistan Today” newspaper)
