Competition Opens up New Opportunities: The best independent media outlets to receive grants
A scaled coverage of the processes of deepening democratic reforms and modernization of the country, ensuring the active participation of independent mass media in addressing the priorities of state and public administration, informing of the activities of state authorities, ensuring of broad public access to information and many other aspects are now the challenges faced by domestic media.
‘Development of independent mass media, advancement of professional skills of journalists, ensuring of transparency and openness of the ongoing reformation policy, enhancement of legal culture, legal knowledge and awareness of the population’ is the subject of a new contest organized by the Public Fund for Support of NGOs and Other Civil Society Institutions under the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The competition focuses on raising the public control by independent media outlets over the activities of public authorities and administration, consecutive quality improvement, excellence and efficiency of the national press, strengthening of financial and economic independence of the media and development of market relations in information sector.
The competition welcomes projects of NGOs and other civil society institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan in seven areas. The maximum amount of the grant allocated for one project is 15 million soums.
Strengthening the role of civil society institutions in creation of effective mechanisms of public control over the execution of legislative acts by state authorities and administration is another important factor in this direction.
The country\'s media have undergone fundamental changes in its essence and content over the years of independence. The over-all encouragement of journalistic activity, establishment of a creative process based on the more demanding requirements, arrangement of traditional contests of journalistic skills is utterly essential.
The Resolution of President Islam Karimov ‘On granting additional tax exemptions and preferences for the further development of the media’ is particularly relevant in this context for it provides extensive opportunities for dynamic development of the national media sphere.
The document is the next step towards the creation of additional opportunities for the development of media agencies, printing companies, press dissemination companies.
