Pills for All Ailments: 1,127 names of domestically produced medicines enrich national drugstores
The number of drugs approved for medical use on the territory of Uzbekistan has exceeded six thousand items. They cover all pharmacological groups recommended by the World Health Organization. Now all medical prescriptions in the country are drug- provided.
The fact that the share of domestic producers has been increasing in the country’s pharmaceutical market over the recent years is no less important. Deputy Health Minister Marat Hojibekov briefed on the current situation.
“1,127 names out of the total 6,036 names of drugs used in Uzbekistan are domestically manufactured. The rest are produced abroad. It is noteworthy that Uzbekistan has started exporting medicines over the recent years. 17 domestic pharmaceutical enterprises sell their products both in domestic and in foreign markets.
Strengthening of the position of domestic producers in the pharmaceutical market is primarily the result of the augmented production capacity. Only two pharmaceutical companies operated in the country in the first years of independence. Nowadays their number makes up 127.
Introduction of international quality management systems is the priority of the domestic pharmaceutical industry development. 19 companies are certified ISO 9001 and GMP. Other enterprises are getting prepared for certification.
It is noteworthy that the domestic version of VIDAL drug handbook contains the original drugs designed by domestic scientists, along with other products represented on the country’s market. More than thirty drugs are widely used. The blood substitute Suktsinasol, antibacterial drug FarGALS and the antiviral drug TselAgripp are the latest products.
I am sure the further development of Uzbekistan\'s pharmaceutical market is directly interlinked with the increase of the share of domestic producers. (Source: “Uzbekistan Today” newspaper)
