Interactive Dialogue: Uzbekistan to bolster the combat against human trafficking
At the United Nations Headquarters in New York an interactive dialogue on human trafficking was held. The event entitled \"Combating Human Trafficking: Partnerships and Innovation to End Violence against Women and children\" was held in the framework of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, human trafficking each year brings to organized criminal groups of about US$32b.

According to the UN News Centre, speaking at a meeting Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations Murad Askarov spoke of the country taken measures to combat human trafficking. The impetus to expand the scope of work to prevent the crime was Decree of President Islam Karimov \"On Measures to Improve the Fight Against Trafficking in Persons\" dated 8 July 2008.

\"Based on the Decree, - the Ambassador said, - was approved by a national Action Plan to improve the effective fight against trafficking in human beings for 2008-2010. The establishment of specialized agencies in the country provides for assistance and protection to victims of human trafficking the. The main task is social rehabilitation of victims and their return to normal life. Today Uzbekistan takes an active part in international efforts to combat human trafficking. The country has acceded to all major conventions and protocols on combating human trafficking and transnational organized crime”.

According to Murad Askarov, interactive dialogue organized with the assistance of the UN Group of Friends, gave an opportunity to discuss ways to improve the effectiveness of joint efforts by the international community to eradicate this evil. In this regard, the Ambassador stressed that the Government of Uzbekistan intends to continue to contribute to efforts to combat human trafficking both domestically and through international cooperation in this field.
