The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Erato Kozakou−Marcoullis has held negotiations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 5 April 2012.

Development of bilateral cooperation in political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as within the UN system and other international and regional organizations has been reviewed.

Furthermore, the prospects of strengthening mutually beneficial relations between Uzbekistan and the European Union have been examined in light of the forthcoming EU presidency of the Republic of Cyprus.

The comprehensive exchange of views has confirmed the existence of a mutual interest in further extension of Uzbek-Cyprian dialogue in different areas, including direct contacts between law enforcement authorities and medical establishments of the two countries. Proximity and commonality of positions in almost all discussed topics have been mentioned.

Tourism has also been cited as one of the priority areas of cooperation, in which Cyprus has significant experience in attracting and serving foreign tourists, building modern infrastructure and training highly-qualified specialists.

At the end of the first visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus to Uzbekistan intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in combating crime, on public health and medical science, on tourism, as well as protocol on cooperation between ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries have been signed.
