Environmental problems of Central Asia discussed in Berlin
In Berlin, the Association of German Water Partnership organized a roundtable dedicated to water issues in Central Asia. The event was timed to the conference \"Water Diplomacy in Central Asia\" held in Berlin.

It was attended by representatives of the German Foreign Ministry, Economic, expert analysis and the scientific community in Germany, dealing with water issues and environmental issues.

As part of the roundtable was a documentary film \"The Aral Sea: Time of Hope\", which became a visual aid for the participants. In this connection, attention was focused on the present that is now in Central Asia, as in many parts of the world, the question of the rational and equitable use of water resources is vital. Therefore, the issues related to management of water resources of trans-boundary rivers in the region - Amudarya and Syrdarya rivers that provide water to the Aral Sea area.

According to Head of Central Asia division of the Association of German Water Partnership Buren Sharav, a careful management of water resources is a major concern for all countries in the world. Stressing the importance of experience in studying similar water and environmental problems in Central Asia, Sharav expressed willingness to establish cooperation with Uzbek partners, including through implementation of various joint projects with the German experience.

The representative of the Association of German Water Partnership in Berlin Sabine Sorge said: \"During today\'s meeting we had the opportunity to discuss many current issues related to water issues in Central Asia. In the future, the union plans to develop projects in the region, particularly in Uzbekistan, for their subsequent joint implementation with the Uzbek partners.

President of the Association of economic consuls in Berlin-Brandenburg Beetts Ingo noted that the major global environmental problem of the Central Asian region is the desiccation of the Aral Sea.

He emphasized that the Government of Uzbekistan with the assistance of various international organizations and a number of countries takes all necessary measures to overcome the consequences of this crisis and shortages of drinking water. In particular, for solutions to existing problems the States budget allocates huge funds supported by active cooperation with various international organizations, Germany and other countries. In this regard, Beetts expressed hope that Uzbekistan will continue to extend all possible support from the international community to address environmental issues the country has faced.(Source: Uzbekistan Today Newspaper).
