AMERICARES DONATES HUMANITARIAN AID WORTH US$2.8 MILLION
AmeriCares, international humanitarian organization (USA), donated humanitarian aid shipment at an official ceremony at Soglom Avlod Uchun (For Healthy Generation) nongovernmental charity on 4 January.
The shipment included medicines, medical supplies, clothing, footwear and nutritional supplements for the total amount of US$2.8 million and weighting some 1,832 tonnes.
This donation was sent to local branches of Soglom Avlod Uchun fund, for their further distribution among hospitals and specialised children?s facilities.
The aim of the campaign is to provide humanitarian assistance to the population needing social protection ? single elderly people, as well as people with disabilities.
AmeriCares is a charity organization founded in the United States in 1982. Since its founding, AmeriCares has provided more than US$4 billion in aid in more than 137 countries. AmeriCares collects product donations from the private sector, determines most urgent needs and solicits funding to send the aid via airlift or ocean cargo to health and welfare professionals in the indigent locations.
On the ground, AmeriCares works with international and local NGOs, hospitals, health networks and government ministries of long-standing effectiveness. Over the years of cooperation with Soglom Avlod Uchun, AmeriCares has made over 10 deliveries of humanitarian aid to Uzbekistan for the total amount of some US$43 million. All donations were distributed by the fund among the medical and children?s facilities in 14 regions of Uzbekistan.
In 2004, Soglom Avlod Uchun received humanitarian aid consignments from foreign partners and international organizations for the total amount of US$9.95 million and 15,000 euros.
