UZBEKISTAN PROVIDES HUMANITARIAN AID TO TSUNAMI-HIT INDONESIA
First aircraft of Uzbekiston Havo Yollari delivered 35 tones of humanitarian aid to Medan city of Indonesia on Monday, Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
Valery Tyan, director-general of Uzbekistan\'s national air company, said the flight marked the start of a series of charter flights to South-East Asia to provide humanitarian aid to countries hit by tsunami and earthquake.
The ministry said the action was organized in accordance with the government\'s decision to participate in the largest international humanitarian operation to help disaster-affected countries.
The second IL-76TD plane with 16 tones of aid on board is scheduled to leave for Indonesia later on Monday.
The humanitarian aid includes medicines, foodstuffs, tents, two off-highway cars, a motorboat, a mobile kitchen, drinking water, spare parts to helicopters and other items.
Uzbekiston Havo Yollari is also helping the Agency for Emergency Situations of Denmark and the government of Switzerland to transport humanitarian aid to the region.
