USAID and Project HOPE deliver medicines worth $2.25 million
May 10, 2016, the Ambassador of the United States to Uzbekistan, Pamela L. Spratlen; Minister of Health, Dr. Anvar Alimov; the Regional Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Central Asia, George Deikun; and Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) Senior Regional Director for Europe and Eurasia, Dr. Mariam Sianozova, announced the arrival of a humanitarian shipment of medicines.

The shipment of medicines, donated by the pharmaceutical companies GlaxoSmithKline and Merck Sharp & Dohme is worth $2,255,234.66, and the Uzbek national air carrier, Havo Yo’llari, transported the pharmaceuticals from the U.S. to Uzbekistan free of charge.

Ministry of Health and Foreign Affairs, National Air Carrier Havo Yo’llari, U.S. Embassy, and Project HOPE representatives took part in hand-over ceremony.

The delivery of the medication is the result of the successful coordination and cooperation of government entities, private industry, and a non-profit organization working together to assist the health and well-being of people in Uzbekistan.

Since 1992, USAID has provided more than $356 million in assistance to Uzbekistan.
