DAVID GEERTS: \"MACROECONOMIC STABILITY AND SUSTAINABLE GROWTH ECONOMY SHOWS THE RIGHT CHOICE OF ECONOMIC MODEL OF STATE DEVELOPMENT\"
On the eve of the anniversary of the State Independence of Uzbekistan correspondent Information Agency \"Jahon\" in Brussels, had an interview with the deputy of Belgian parliament David Geerts who visited our country as an observer in Presidential elections in this spring.
In an interview he expressed sincere congratulations on the occasion of the forthcoming Uzbek national holiday and shared his views on the progress made over the years of sovereign development of the country.
- I am familiar with Uzbekistan, - he said. - During my visit to the country, I witnessed its rapid socio-economic development, which is clearly reflected in the modern sight of towns and villages. The results of creative endeavor which gained over 24 years in all spheres, are commendable.
Thanks to the incremental political reforms in the country today the power of the legislative authority has been strengthened, there is an active development of civil society institutions, it is increasing their role in the political life of the republic, and this testifies to the correctness of the chosen path of development.
Not only being a parliamentarian, but also as the deputy mayor of the Belgian city of Heist-op-den-Berg, I am impressed with your experience in the development of self-government institutions, in particular the activities of such a body as the \"Mahalla\". In my opinion, this is one of the unique examples of modern democracy. It is noteworthy the role of the \"Mahalla\" in the preservation and development of national traditions and customs, the social protection of low-income families, single elderly and disabled, as well as helping entrepreneurs starting their own business.
Uzbekistan achieved macro-economic stability and sustained high rates of economic growth despite the ongoing crisis in Europe, and that indicates a properly chosen economic model. I believe that measures to create a favorable investment climate, modernization of production, improving the competitiveness of enterprises and the promotion of small and private businesses contribute to economic development and the preservation of an average of 7-8 per cent annual GDP growth.
It is worthy the care and respect for the elderly, which is based not only on the cultural traditions, but also on reforms and initiatives currently being implemented by the state.
A good example of this, is the adoption of the State program \"Year of attention and care for the older generation\", which provides a further increase in the level and quality of life of venerable age people by improving the social, pension and health care.
In Uzbekistan, I have also witnessed the great efforts being made to improve the system of education, training and re-training of young cadres with high general and professional culture, creative and social activity. As a result the education system of schools, specialized secondary and vocational colleges and lyceums has been improved. Now they meet the highest modern requirements and standards in this area.
Investments in education are the most effective investment in the future, as the level and quality of education will determine the prospects for any country’s development and progress.
Within the framework of my visit to Uzbekistan I saw many young entrepreneurs, and I can firmly state that the efforts of the state in the field of education has brought its first positive results.
In conclusion, I wish your country further success in the way of progress and prosperity. I am sure that with this approach the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Independence of your country will be marked by even greater results.
